Friday 26 September is Save the Koala Day. The aim of Save the Koala Day is to raise awareness of the plight of one of Australia's most loved icons and the problems they face as their habitat is cleared.
Disease and climate change have had a real impact on the Koala population. With housing encroaching on the Koala's natural habitat, there is increased risk of dog attacks and road accidents. Simple measures like planting new and maintaining existing trees that Koalas feed on and keeping dogs secure at night go a long way to help.
Koala Keeper talks these school holidays focus on Save the Koala Day. There are four Koalas in the collection: Hamish, Ella, Mia and Marla and we are slowly introducing another little one who was orphaned: her name is Prickles. All of these Koalas were either rescued and rehabilitated or captive born from rescued mothers.
