It is by walking in the shoes of another that we can start to appreciate the complex issues surrounding animal conservation and realise the role we all play in saving animals from extinction.
An African Experience is an interactive education program that enables students to delve into the heart of one of Africa’s most serious and complex environmental issues…poaching! On arrival, students are encouraged to step outside the safe confines of Werribee Open Range Zoo, and enter Africa, to walk in the shoes of another for a day. Students board the safari bus as a tourist, ranger, local farmer, documentary maker or tour operator. On their return the safari bus comes to a sudden halt as they receive news that a Southern White Rhinoceros has been shot and dehorned. Within minutes, students become participants in a lively, interactive role-play, as they plead their innocence and discuss the motives of the other characters!
