Trees Paws and Claws is an authentic learning experience that utilises Werribee Open Range Zoos unique setting along the Werribee River. Experienced and passionate staff facilitate students’ understanding of the issues surrounding the loss of local habitat, and provide opportunities to connect with native wildlife. Students investigate the needs of species that live, or used to live along the Werribee River, and assess the quality of this remnant habitat. This authentic learning experience is designed to inspire action.

Fundraising is therefore an important component of this learning experience and follows each schools visit to the zoo. The fundraising process provides students with the opportunity to work towards a common goal, as they raise community awareness and money to sponsor one of ‘Trees Paws and Claws’ species such as the Powerful Owl, Platypus, Koala, Growling Grass Frog, Sugar Glider and Spot-tailed Quoll.

By sponsoring one of the above species, your class will help to restore the habitat along the Werribee River at Werribee Open Range Zoo.

For every $50 raised, 5 trees will be planted by Greenfleet and maintained on your behalf.

This meaningful outcome is one that harnesses student empowerment, and allows students to recognise that their contributions and efforts can make a difference!
