Give your child a birthday party to remember at Melbourne Zoo!  Let them experience the wonders of wildlife by having their own unique zoo encounter with some of the most fascinating animals.

A birthday party at Melbourne Zoo will not only help support and continue the great conservation work of the zoo, but will also allow you to sit back and relax while we run a hassle free event for you and your child. Birthday parties are only for children from 5 – 10 years of age.

So what’s included?

• A host to run your birthday party
• A private party venue in the zoo’s old elephant barn
• An up close and personal animal encounter with a variety of animals such as snakes, tortoises, lizards, frogs, wombat & Loris Monkeys
• A carousel ride for each child
• All day entry into the zoo
• Party invitations online (see below)
• Party food for all children is an optional extra

Days and times
Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and 12.30pm all year round (subject to availability) and bookings are essential. Party guests can attend the zoo from 9am on presentation of their party wristband.

Cost

• $35 per child (catered option)
• $23 per child (non catered option)

Numbers
A minimum of 12 children are required to hold a birthday party at the zoo, with a maximum number of 24 children.  One adult per six children must attend and will also receive free entry.  Additional adults will need to pay the general admission fee (adult numbers are limited due to the size of the party venue). Parents and other guests who are not attending the zoo party can join the group at the completion of the event at the Carousel and enjoy the rest of the day at the zoo (general admission applies).

Meeting point and party location
Your birthday party host will meet you and your guests at the main entrance of the zoo (Elliott Avenue) 15 minutes prior to your party booking time and will escort you to your private party venue, the zoo’s old elephant barn.  Your unique animal encounter will take place at another area on the zoo premises (our discovery centre); you will be escorted by your host.

Conditions and general information

• Party numbers (children and adults) are to be confirmed 7 days prior to the party
• Additional children or adults cannot be added after 7 days prior to the party or on the day of the party
• We require one supervising adult per six children
• Due to the size of the room, the number of adults is limited
• The party session will run for approximately 90 minutes.  For catered parties the food is prepared by the zoos in house caterer Delaware North Companies Australia.  You may order or bring along your own birthday cake.  For animal and visitor safety, balloons, balls, frisbees, whistles, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, party poppers, toy guns, water pistols are not allowed in the zoo
• Public car parking is available at the eastern and northern perimeters or you can take public transport (tram or train) to reach the zoo.  Tram 55 runs from William Street Monday through Sunday.  Trains run from Flinders Street Station on the Upfield or Gowrie lines Monday through Sunday, stopping at Melbourne Zoo’s own Royal Park Station
• The Melbourne Zoo is a predominantly outdoor venue and is subject to varying weather conditions.  In line with normal zoo policy, no refund will be issued on party fees due to inclement weather
