Melbourne Zoo has received a commendation for the Water Savings category of the 2009 Sustainable Cities Keep Australia Beautiful Awards.

The commendation recognizes the Zoo's efforts to conserve water and put in place an integrated water management plan that has halved the Zoos' annual water use. The water plan includes infrastructure upgrades, changes to work practices and using new products and technologies.

The commendation follows a 2008 save water! Award for excellence also won by Melbourne Zoo for its outstanding contribution to water sustainability.
