In September 2007 Healesville Sanctuary was awarded ECO certification - Advanced Ecotourism by Ecotourism Australia.
In 2008 both the Werribee Open Range Zoo and the zoo's Slumber Safari were awarded the ECO certification - Ecotourism by Ecotourism Australia.
This world-first certification program is designed to provide travellers; local communities and industry with an assurance that certified products and services are backed by a commitment to best practice ecological sustainability, natural area management, and the provision of quality tourism experiences.
