Rhythm of Africa season just a drum beat away
Werribee Open Range Zoo will launch its 2010 Rhythm of Africa season with an exciting triple act musical line-up on Saturday 2 January.
Three popular African bands will headline the bumper opening night, offering contemporary and traditional music. Musiki Manjaro, African Royal Drummers and Muhanamwe will perform from 3.30pm until 8.45pm.
This event kicks off the first of 20 magical musical nights every Saturday and Sunday until March 7.
Werribee Open Range Zoo Director Sally Lewis said this much-loved Melbourne event was a great outing for families and music lovers and offered incredible value for money.
"We have pulled together a fabulous line-up of Melbourne's top African musical talent to entertain our visitors this Summer," Ms Lewis said.
"These events are included in the general price of admission, so it's amazing value. Visitors can spend the whole day exploring the Zoo, before relaxing on a picnic blanket and enjoying fine music, food and wine in the picturesque African Village."
The African Village also offers a large range of activities including hair braiding, African tribal and animal face painting, tribal jewellery making, instrument making workshops, local community performances, African food and drink and much more.
Please note, musical performances on subsequent nights will be between 5.30pm and 8.45pm. The last Safari Bus tour departs at 6pm. Walking Trails close at 8pm and the zoo closes at 9pm.
