Gorillas arriving soon!
The countdown is underway for the arrival of three male gorillas at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
In just three months, silverback Motaba and his sons, Ganyeka and Yakini will move into their new $3.6million gorilla exhibit. They are currently at Melbourne Zoo.
The new enclosure will be one of the largest gorilla exhibits in the world and feature innovative design features, amazing viewing platforms and play areas. There will also be interactive elements highlighting the plight of gorillas in the wild and the threats to their habit by illegal coltan mining - a mineral used in the production of mobile phones.
We will be regularly updating information on the three boys and the imminent move to Werribee.
Keep visiting the website to see our gorilla Keeper Blogs which we'll be posting shortly. You will discover first-hand from the keepers the intensive behind-the-scenes preparation which is being done to ensure the gorillas enjoy a smooth transition to their new home.
