Kona joins the herds
Giraffe Kona has finally met all the amazing animals in the Lower Savannah at Werribee Open Range Zoo, following his recent release from quarantine.
Kona was routinely held in quarantine for several weeks following his 700 kilometre road trip from Monarto Zoo, south west of Adelaide in February.
Zoo vets recently gave Kona the all-clear to join the other animals in the spacious grassy plains, which include his younger brother Harold and lots of other giraffe, rhinos, zebra and eland. Harold was transported from Monarto Zoo in late December.
Keepers say Kona is settling in extremely well, enjoys hanging out with his brother, and is a confident relaxed giraffe. The giraffe herd now numbers six and also includes Tony, Kinta, Amani and Thembi.
