Certified by Low Carbon Australia, Zoos Victoria is the world’s first zoo to achieve carbon neutral certification. We have joined Carbon Neutral Network through sound carbon reduction onsite and securing habitat to protect biodiversity through the purchase of carbon offsets.
Zoos Victoria is committed to continual improvement of our environmental sustainability practices. In June 2014 we launched our 2014-19 Environmental Sustainability Investment Prospectus, the first of our five year plans to guide our journey to become a world-leader in sustainability. The delivery of the projects outlined in this plan are open for support from funding partners.
What we're doing to become sustainable
Working to reduce, re-use and recycle in as many ways as we can, from small-scale worm farming to in-vessel compost.
Every year we measure our carbon and resources consumed.
Improving our energy efficiency in various ways across our three properties, ranging from animal care to staff awareness.
Reducing our water consumption, while maintaining the necessary diverse environments for our animals.
Employing best practice in managing and reducing our environmental impact.
