AGL Marine Response Unit
The AGL Marine Response Unit is Victoria's first dedicated marine unit that responds to calls for assistance involving seals, turtles, dolphins and other marine wildlife in Victorian waters.
In a unique sponsorship, the AGL Marine Response Unit brings together energy retailer AGL and Zoos Victoria with assistance from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria. Since it launched in October 2013, it has responded to over 500 calls for assistance involving Victoria's marine wildlife including seals, dolphins, whales, turtles and birds.
The AGL Marine Response Unit relies on the community to act as its eyes and ears, reporting when they see injured or distressed marine wildlife on Victoria's coastline and while the unit responds to all calls involving marine mammals, it predominately deals with cases involving seals.
Seals are a common site in Victorian waters and on Victorian beaches, however, it is important to remember they are wild animals and can be dangerous if they feel threatened.
