Captive Breeding encourages VCE students to explore the concept of biodiversity and its role in sustaining ecological integrity and the survival of populations.
Students will discover the threats faced by Victoria’s faunal emblem, the Leadbeater’s Possum and Zoos Victoria’s contribution to the scientific research, monitoring and captive breeding of this endangered species.
They will have access to recent data from Zoos Victoria’s field ecologists and discover these elusive creatures and other endangered species in the Nocturnal House and other exhibits.
This program can be used to meet the requirements of the School Assessed Coursework (SAC) and addresses the area of study and outcomes in:
- VCE Environmental Science Unit 3 – Ecological Issues; Energy and Biodiversity (Area of Study 2: Diversity in the Biosphere Outcomes 2 and 3).
Zoos Victoria Education aligns with best practice learning strategies for VCE Environmental Science and has a strong focus on collaborative learning and developing inquiry skills.
Our educational experiences cater for students of all learning needs and multi-sensory common language is available to EAL and non-verbal students.
