Melbourne Zoo’s pedagogy aligns with best practice and approaches for Early Years and has a strong focus on predicting, exploring, discovering and comparing. The Cycles of life program explores the stages of an animal’s life cycle using unique animal ‘biofacts’ representing the different stages of life and the variety of growth and change in the living world. The program allows for small group exploration guided by adults for younger students, while older students are able to investigate life stages through a problem solving approach.
Students will interact with various animals they have investigated and learn that not only does each stage of life impact the next, but human activities can also have an impact the survival of wildlife and the continuation of the life cycle.
The Cycles of life learning program addresses AusVELS levels F-4 standards. It supports the cross-curriculum priorities of Sustainability and addresses achievements in the domains of Science, Interpersonal Development, Personal Learning, Civics and Citizenship, English, Humanities and Thinking Processes.
