The natural balance (formerly Habitat heroes)

Nature is an amazing balancing act! In all ecosystems, living things form relationships of needs and depend on each other to survive.

Melbourne Zoo’s pedagogy aligns with best practice approaches for Middle Years and has a strong focus on exploring, collaborating and problem solving. The natural balance program develops an understanding of how living and non-living things form relationships of interconnectedness and interdependence. Students will collaborate to investigate the relationships in a forested habitat and explore how human activities can affect these interactions.

Students will have the opportunity to make personal connections with animals from the ecosystem they have explored, develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics of an ecosystem and partner with Zoos Victoria in supporting our conservation campaign Wipe for Wildlife.

The natural balance learning program addresses AusVELS levels 4-7 standards.  It supports the cross-curriculum priorities of Sustainability and addresses achievements in the domains of Science, Interpersonal Development, English, Humanities and Thinking Processes.
