Investigating the grassland ecosystem
Explore the diversity that exists between animals, plants and other organisms within a grassland ecosystem
Undertaking fieldwork, students record first hand data about the relationships that exist in native grasslands.
Join us for some grassland fieldwork to search for evidence of animals and determine the factors that limit the holding capacity for a recovery species. Identify various plants and apply student learning to determine the features a plant has to aid its survival in a region of low water availability and the importance of it as a bushfood to the local Wurundjeri people. Biotic and abiotic factors are researched in a grassland community, revealing how the altering of any single factor impacts upon the ecosystem as a whole. Observation, monitoring, data collection and analysis through quadrats are integral to this program.
This program can be used to meet the requirements of the School Assessed Coursework (SAC).
