- Help fight extinction
Zoos Victoria is a not-for-profit conservation organisation which relies on Philanthropic support to deliver our projects.
Philanthropic funding helps Zoos Victoria to achieve significant outcomes that will serve the many generations to follow. Namely we seek partnerships with Trusts and Foundations which seek to support conservation, biodiversity, sustainability, education, research, tourism, indigenous Australians, capital investment and the preservation of native flora and fauna.
Since the establishment of Melbourne Zoo at Royal Park in 1862, the Victorian community has supported its development through philanthropic gifts, helping to shape our much-loved Zoo into what it is today. Our philanthropic partners continue to provide Zoos Victoria with the means to establish critical breeding programs helping to fight extinction at our three great campuses, including Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo. Our focus is now on identifying funding partners for priority programs which will help us achieve our goal to become the world’s leading zoo-based conservation organisation.
Please see our current projects for further information on projects pending funding.
Zoos Victoria acknowledges and thanks those who have committed their support to care for our animals, to create world class exhibits and to lead important conservation programs in the ongoing fight against extinction.
The Coranderrk Bushland Reserve is a culturally significant landscape and the largest remnant of intact Yarra Valley floor forest. The Coranderrk is in urgent need of restoration and isolation from damaging external influences such as non-native flora and fauna. Zoos Victoria, as custodians of the reserve, are committed to restoring the site. This will be achieved by suppressing and negating threatening processes, restoring natural ecological processes, reintroducing indigenous fauna species, and developing unique experiences for community engagement through educational and eco-tourism opportunities.
Zoos Victoria understands the strength in collaborative funding and is proud to announce partnerships with The William Buckland Foundation, The Ian Potter Foundation, Vizard Family Foundation and Yulgilbar Foundation. Our philanthropic partnerships are secured over multiple years, providing the opportunity to see significant change. Funding enabled the installation of a predator proof fence around the perimeter of the Coranderrk and placement for two students in the Indigenous Trainees Program.
We encourage trusts, foundations and private ancillary fund’s interested in conservation, fighting extinction and Indigenous programs to email the Grants Manager for more information or call 03 9340 2751.
