We are committed to ensuring we provide an accessible environment for all our visitors at Healesville Sanctuary. We achieve this in a variety of ways.

Accessibility for wheelchairs and pushers

Healesville Sanctuary has an easy-to-follow pathway system, with access for people using wheelchairs and pushers.

Wheelchairs and pushers are also available for hire.

Wheelchair cost: $22 hire, fully refundable deposit (GST inclusive)
Pusher cost: $35 hire, $20 refundable deposit (GST inclusive)

Photographic identification required.

Accessible toilets

Our accessible toilets are located at:

  • The main visitor entrance to the Sanctuary
  • Harvest Cafe (nor referred to as bistro anymore)
  • Reptile Precinct

Access for assistance animals

Assistance animals that are certified by a registered authority are welcome at Healesville Sanctuary.

However, for the safety of your animal and our animals, assistance animals are not permitted at:

  • the kangaroo walk-through
  • all walk-through aviaries
  • flight arena shows
  • Magic Moments

Our admissions staff can answer any queries you may have about your assistance animal, as well as provide maps and any further assistance. Just ask us when you arrive. If needed, our staff can also look after your assistance animal.

Mobile guided tours

Friends of the Zoos volunteers offer free tours in an electric golf cart designed to assist with accessibility through the expansive zoo grounds.

Our vehicles can carry up to three passengers at a time. They travel at walking pace, so that assistants, family or friends can tour alongside, on foot. Tours run for approximately one-and-a-half hours.

Please contact us with 24–48 hours’ notice if you’d like to use this service. Bookings are subject to availability. Operating terms and conditions apply.
