Celebrate Corroboree at Healesville Sanctuary!
This autumn join us for Corroboree at Healesville Sanctuary - our biggest celebration of Indigenous people and culture.
Launching on 28 March, visitors to the Sanctuary can see first-hand how Australia’s first culture is being protected, celebrated and shared.
Enjoy Dreaming stories about our unique wildlife, as told by this land’s traditional owners, who found intrinsic balance with this country for more than 40,000 years alongside Australia’s native wildlife. Connect to country through living culture, bush tucker, animal encounters, music, craft and storytelling on sacred Coranderrk land.
While tuning into the sound of the didgeridoo, learn about bush food and medicine plants, enjoy bush tucker tastings such as bark-wrapped Barramundi, or cook your own damper with bush honey over an open fire. We’ll even teach you how to throw a boomerang!
Visitors of all ages can take part in rock art painting and cultural mapping using traditional symbols linked to the land. For the musical-minded, little ones can use clap sticks to merge the Sanctuary’s natural bush soundscape with their own creative harmonies.
Meet our Indigenous staff on the pathways as they connect you to culture through their own stories. They can even teach you how to make a fire from scratch and how to weave a bracelet from native grasses. Learn how to throw a boomerang and, down by the river, learn how the Wurundjeri people caught eels and help to make a stone eel trap.
Don’t miss our twice daily Spirits of the Sky presentation, which taps into the rich Indigenous history of the Sanctuary and the creation story of Bunjil the majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle. At our Tales from Platypus Creek presentation, you’ll hear the story of how the Platypus was created and, in the new RACV Lyrebird Aviary, Echoes in the Mist, hear the story of how Bulin Bulin found many voices.
These holidays, Healesville Sanctuary has also invited Uncle Rex Campbell from Wiradjeri country, as our Artist in Residence. Uncle Rex will share his culture through his personal creative art journey, taking inspiration from Zoos Victoria’s 20 Fighting Extinction species. Stop a while and watch him work as he explains the inspiration for his artworks.
