Melbourne Zoo is expecting a baby gorilla after 14 years

Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Ryan Smith, announced Melbourne Zoo’s Primates team is expecting a baby gorilla for the first time in 14 years.

Green Tree Frog Surgery

Four recently-arrived Green Tree Frogs had a visit to the Vet Surgery at Melbourne Zoo this morning.

As it can be difficult to identify a frog just by its markings, the Zoo plays it safe by giving each one a nanochip, the smallest variety of microchip.

Earlier this week, the Minister for Planning, Matthew Guy, announced his decision for the East West Link project to go ahead. Although in his announcement, he mentioned that the project will be subject to changes following expert advice from a planning panel investigating the project.

Swan Surgery Success

A wild swan brought into Melbourne Zoo yesterday afternoon by a Wildlife Victoria carer was treated successfully and then released back to its home on the Yarra, near the Melbourne University boatshed.

Sad News on Wild Swan Surgery

Melbourne Zoo is very sad to announce the loss of the wild Black Swan, which arrived here from Southbank on Sunday, June 15. The swan had swallowed a fishing line and hook, and it was rescued by Water Police and then brought to the Zoo by Wildlife Victoria carers.
