Better Butterfly House
7 August 2012

The Butterfly House is closed temporarily for a major restoration project that will greatly decrease its environmental impact.
The butterfly species displayed are all from tropical and subtropical Australia, so the Butterfly House needs to be kept at about 28 degrees year-round.
It is heated by gas, and the original glass roof is being replaced to retain heat more effectively.
The new double-glazed roof will significantly reduce the gas needed to heat the Butterfly House.
This project to reduce the Zoo's carbon footprint has been made possible through support from the Yulgibar Foundation.
It is expected that the project will take several weeks, and there will be website updates as it gets close to completion.
