Rescued swan returns

A swan entangled in fishing line and brought to Melbourne Zoo for treatment was returned to its home at Sanctuary Lakes this morning.

Pygmy Hippo birth

Melbourne Zoo is celebrating its first Pygmy Hippopotamus calf birth since 1981.

Keepers have not had any contact with the calf so far, but glimpses have given them the impression that it is likely to be a male.

Maimunah celebrates birthday

Maimunah celebrates birthday

Sumatran Orang-utan Maimunah has celebrated her 29th birthday with a Zoo Bakery banana cake topped with strawberries and banana slices, plus surprise parcels of treats.

Her actual birthday is May 23, but Keepers chose to celebrate today because it is World Biodiversity Day.
