We are committed to ensuring we provide an accessible environment for all our visitors at Melbourne Zoo. We achieve this in a variety of ways.

There are six accessible parking bays near the main entrance of Melbourne Zoo. Seven accessible parking bays are located near the Rail Gate entrance.
There is a bus drop-off point at the main gate and all-day bus parking on the northern side of the Zoo (except school and public holidays, where it is open to all vehicles).
Accessibility for wheelchairs and pushers
Melbourne Zoo has an easy-to-follow pathway system, with access for people using wheelchairs and pushers.
Wheelchairs are also available for free hire. Photographic identification is required.
We recommend you book in advance. Tel: (03) 9285 9300
Pushers are $15 to hire. Photographic identification is required.
Our accessible toilets are located at:
- Our main entrance on the way to the Gorilla Rainforest
- The Lakeside Bistro
- Near the rail gate entrance close to the Picnic Pavilion
- Along the main drive near the Orang-utans
- Elephant Village, near the Bong-Su room
Access for assistance animals
Assistance animals that are certified by a registered authority are welcome at Melbourne Zoo.
However, for the safety of your animal and our animals, assistance animals are not permitted in off-limits areas, including the Australian Bush walk-through area.
If visitors would like to attend these experiences, they can be escorted by a staff member or volunteer guide. Assistance animals will be cared for during their visit to these experiences.
Our admissions staff can help with these issues and any queries, just ask when you arrive. If needed, our staff can also look after your assistance animal.
Guide mobile tours
Please note that our volunteer program is being redeveloped and will be operating at a reduced capacity during the months of March and April. We will attempt to assist our mobility-impaired visitors during this time but volunteers may not be available to provide guide mobile tours.
If you are mobility-impaired, we have guide mobile tours available from our friendly volunteer guides.
The guide mobile is an electric vehicle that carries up to three passengers at a time. It travels at walking pace, so carers can tour along on foot. As this is a volunteer-led service, guide mobile tours are subject to the availability of volunteers. Please note there are safety limitations on where the guide mobile can travel through the Zoo grounds and the tour runs for approximately one hour.
Bookings are highly recommended.
For bookings contact firstname.lastname@example.org
For impromptu tours on the day please check availability at Melbourne Zoo Reception, located at the front gate.
