Many Thanks from moth tracker

We’re sending a BIG thank you to all of the Moth Trackers out there who have submitted more Bogong Moth sightings on Zoos Victoria’s Moth Tracker citizen science platform than ever before! During the small but mighty Bogong Moth’s recent epic spring to summer migration, you submitted 594 moth sightings, with 291 of those confirmed to be Endangered Bogong Moths. Thank you! This is one of our favourite images submitted recently, from Moth Tracker Caroline in Rhyll, Victoria.

Preliminary news suggests that the numbers of Bogong Moths arriving in the alpine regions were lower than the previous migration and we continue to be highly concerned for this special species, as well as the other species that depend on them such as the Critically Endangered Mountain Pygmy-possum.

Now the Bogong Moths are making their return migration over autumn back to warmer climates, so please continue to keep an eye out for Bogong Moths and submit any suspected sightings on Moth Tracker

Welcome, Teddy!

Melbourne Zoo recently introduced a delightful addition to its Australia Bush Trail: Theodore the Quokka, or Teddy to his friends. Members and visitors can now see him hopping around his shared habitat alongside the Koalas. Known as the “happiest animal in the world,” the Quokka is the smallest among the wallaby species. Despite its cheerful nature, the Quokka, listed as vulnerable, faces significant threats in the wild, such as habitat loss, climate change, and invasive predators.
