2011 Zoos Victoria Annual Report

17 October 2011

We are delighted to present Zoos Victoria's Annual Report and Life Sciences Addendum for the year ending 30 June 2011.

The report highlights the amazing year that was, taking our three great zoos closer towards our goal of becoming a world leader in zoo based conservation.

There were numerous achievements throughout the financial year 2010-2011 that we are very proud of, including the:

  • Launch of the Reconciliation Action Plan at Healesville Sanctuary in front of distinguished guests and collaborators such as Reconciliation Australia
  • The successful breeding of highly endangered Mountain Pygmy Possums (38 in total) as part of our Fighting Extinction commitment to save Victorian threatened species
  • Our Don't Palm us Off campaign recently inspired the Truth in Labelling Palm Oil Bill to be heard in the House of Representatives, demonstrating the power of community activism
  • And the successful arrival of our second baby elephant, Ongard, at Melbourne Zoo

Zoos Victoria is now looking forward to the year ahead, making a public commitment to fight extinction in our own backyard, right here in Victoria.
