Zoos Victoria has welcomed a move by Ferrero, makers of Nutella and Kinder, to shift their entire supply chain to 100 per cent Certified Sustainable, traceable palm oil by 2014, one year  sooner than their original commitment.

Leadbeater’s Possum Monitoring

For the next fortnight, Dan Harley Threatened Species Biologist at Healesville Sanctuary will be part of a team monitoring the last lowland population of Leadbeater’s Possum at Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve in conjunction with Parks Victoria as part of the annual population monitoring which has taken place since 1996.

Zoos Victoria is deeply saddened by the news Ltadamwa Lordargos, a scout from Melako Community Conservancy, lost his life in an exchange of gun fire with heavily armed cattle raiders in Kenya on Sunday 11 May.

Harry Hippo

Harry Hippo will be sadly missed

Sadly Harry the hippo was euthanized at  Werribee Open Range Zoo late on Monday 12 May, following a deterioration of a long-term foot condition.

The ageing hippo had been treated extensively by zoo veterinarians, but it did not prevent his condition from worsening recently.
