Melbourne Zoo is celebrating a major milestone!

Sixteen Hamadryas Baboons have moved into their new, spacious, and custom-designed Baboon Lookout.

Zoo Director Kevin Tanner says that the baboon move is an important step in the ongoing transformation of the Zoo into a zoo-based conservation organisation.

He adds that connecting visitors to African wildlife is a vital first step in gaining support for the Zoos Victoria’s Beads for Wildlife conservation program which is providing Kenyan women with a new income stream through sales of their beautiful beadwork in Zoo shops.

Kevin Tanner explains that ‘Rangers are already reporting encouraging results.’

Families visiting the Zoo and buying beadwork will help Kenyan families as well as the endangered Grevy’s Zebra.
