Zoos Victoria's Don't Palm us Off campaign encouraged over 160, 000 Australians to speak out against misleading labelling of palm oil due to its link to deforestation in South-east Asia. Now the Australian public has the chance to voice their opinion again by voting for Don't Palm us Off in the Banksia Environmental Foundation's People's Choice Award.
Zoos Victoria's CEO, Jenny Gray was overwhelmed with the community support for the campaign, importantly resulting in labelling legislation discussion at a Federal Government level.
"We are very happy with the campaign's achievements so far but receiving a nomination for the People's Choice Award clearly acknowledges all of the hard work we do to engage our community in fighting extinction and this makes me extremely proud."
In an added bonus Don't Palm us Off was also officially recognised for achieving environmental excellence, announced as a finalist in the Education Award category, Raising the Bar.
The winners will be announced at the Banksia Awards Presentation on October 28 2011 in an official awards ceremony to be held in Sydney. Public voting is now open for the Banksia People's Choice Award.
Your vote will help us celebrate the success of Don't Palm us Off so far and reinforce the strength of the widespread public voice in support of palm oil reforms in Australian manufacturing. With the outcome of the Bill still to be decided, now is a crucial time for public pressure to make a real difference.
Let your voice be heard again! Vote for Don't Palm us Off in the Banksia People's Choice Award.
Voting is open for a limited time, so don't miss out on your opportunity to have your say. Voting closes Tuesday October 25 2011.
