Silverback gorilla, Motaba, celebrated his 29th birthday at Werribee Open Range Zoo yesterday.
Zoo volunteers made a special birthday cake filled with all kinds of wholesome goodies including plenty of his favourite vegetables.
Motaba lives with his two sons, Yakini and Ganyeka, in the zoo’s large island gorilla exhibit which opened just over a year ago.
Motaba’s birthday is today, 23 December, but keepers decided it was better to celebrate yesterday, instead of today when temperatures are expected to hit 39 degress. So zoo visitors can wish Motaba a happy birthday today (Sunday) when they come to the zoo.
Just a reminder also to visitors, that the zoo is open every day of the year, including all public holidays such as Christmas Day.
Together we can improve animal care, reduce threatening processes and save endangered species.
