New 'mane' attraction at Werribee
A young lion has arrived at Werribee Open Range Zoo following a flight from Sydney this afternoon.
Johari, an 8-year-old male from Sydney's Taronga Zoo, made the journey inside a special animal transport crate in the cargo hold of a Qantas aircraft.
The young lion was met by Werribee Zoo staff on arrival at Melbourne airport and immediately transferred to his new home in the west.
Johari will remain in routine quarantine for several weeks, before being allowed to meet his new family—three other lions in the zoo's award-winning Lions on the Edge exhibit.
It's hoped the young lion will play a role in the zoo's lion breeding program.
For more details of Johari's progress and when he will be on public display, keep visiting the zoo website.
