Healesville Sanctuary is proud to support Xtinction at Three Stories Artspace Gallery, opening Saturday 23 February.
Xtinction is a contemporary exhibition where artists have explored the concept of extinction in the context of people, places, things, flora and fauna. Artworks include painting, sculpture, photography and mixed medium, as well as the use of sustainably sourced materials and objects.
The exhibition, part of the Sustainable Living Festival highlights the many Australian species that are presently endangered. A percentage of sales will go to My Environment for Leadbeater’s Possum habitat conservation. Healesville Sanctuary has the only captive breeding program for the Leadbeater's Possum anywhere in the world.
The Healesville Sanctuary Fighting Extinction Art Prize will be awarded to the work judged to best represent an aspect of ‘extinction’.
In addition to the prize, Healesville Sanctuary is also offering an ‘Artist in Residence’ opportunity which includes exclusive site access and one month’s accommodation at the Coranderrk Bush Hut at the Sanctuary. The residency will allow the artist to create artworks inspired by some of Victoria's most threatened species.
Together we can improve animal care, reduce threatening processes and save endangered species.
Our Victorian state animal emblem, the Leadbeater’s Possum was thought to be extinct until found in the central highlands of Victoria. You can help us fight extinction by adopting the Leadbeater's Possum.
