A sad farewell to much-loved lion, Tonyi

Elderly Lion Tonyi passed away Thursday, 31 December at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Zoo Veterinarians made the difficult decision to euthanise the aging Lion as a result of his deteriorating health.

Sampit Siamang celebrates

Siamang Sampit has turned 18 today, and she shared the variety of picnic treats with her mate Isidor.   

Plums, capsicums, sugar cane and ice blocks were all on the party menu!

Siamangs are the largest of the nine gibbon species, the pairs form lasting bonds.

Special Christmas deliveries at Werribee Open Range Zoo

While the State welcomed a much needed cool change from the searing heat of the weekend, Werribee Open Range Zoo staff were equally excited to welcome the arrival of two extra special newborns. Przewalski’s Horse, Mahan, gave birth to a colt in the early hours of Monday, 21 December.
