Plastic

Recycled plastic products are used extensively by Zoo Victoria. They are mostly used for park furniture, traffic bollards and as building material. The plastic comes from milk containers, shampoo bottles, fruit juice and cordial bottles and from printer cartridges.

Compost

Zoo Gro is used as a compost and soil conditioner in the gardens at Melbourne Zoo. More than 800 cubic metres were used during Trail of the Elephants.

Recycled Building Materials

Recycled building materials are frequently used during the construction of exhibits and buildings. Recovered timber was used extensively in the Orang-utan Forest Sanctuary at Melbourne Zoo and 500 tonnes of recycled concrete has been used so far in the construction of the new marine precinct.
