Werribee Open Range Zoo has an easy-to-follow pathway system, with access for people using wheelchairs and pushers.

Wheelchairs are also available for hire at Village Trader
Cost: $20 fully refundable deposit
Photographic identification required.

Accessible toilets

Our accessible toilets are located at:

  • our main entrance (near Ranger Kids)
  • the Meerkat Bistro
  • Safari Station

Accessible vehicle tours

We have four wheelchair-accessible Safari buses.

Our Safari vehicles can accommodate two standard wheelchairs, or one electric wheelchair per vehicle. The wheelchairs are accommodated at the front of our vehicles alongside the driver and will be safely strapped in.

Bookings are advisable. Tel: 03 9731 9601.

Our Off Road Safaris use a 12-seater vehicle that can accommodate a person in a wheelchair who can transfer across to a seat.

Unfortunately, we do not have a wheelchair accessible mini-bus at the moment for our Tall Order Giraffe Feed.

Ramp access to our vehicles is available, if required.

Access for assistance animals

Assistance animals that are certified by a registered authority are welcome at Werribee Open Range Zoo.

However, for the safety of your animal and our animals, assistance animals are not permitted at:

  • Lion Encounter
  • Raising Rhino
  • Open Vehicle Adventure
  • Tall Order Giraffe Feed
  • Slumber Safari and Australian Journey

If visitors would like to attend these experiences, they can be escorted by a staff member or volunteer guide. Assistance animals will be cared for during their visit to these experiences.

Our admissions staff can help with these issues and any queries. Just ask us when you arrive. If needed, our staff can also look after your assistance animal.

Mobile guided tours

Friends of the Zoos volunteers offer free tours in an electric golf cart designed to assist with accessibility through the expansive zoo grounds.

Our vehicles can carry up to three passengers at a time. They travel at walking pace, so that assistants, family or friends can tour alongside, on foot. Tours run for approximately one-and-a-half hours.

No notice is required. However, bookings are subject to availability on the day. Operating terms and conditions apply.
