Children will become a Wild Explorer for the day. Through song, story and play, they will learn what makes an endangered Australian animal special.
Wild Explorers learn to love and care for animals. Children discover how to protect animals' habitats and the importance of ensuring their survival through play-based learning, stories and song.
Who knows what animals you might meet along the way – extraordinary encounters abound for Wild Explorers. Children might feel the rumble of an Asian Elephant's trumpet or take a closer look at the curious Lord Howe Stick Insect on their adventure through the zoo. Children will learn:
- How to love and care for animals
- The unique characteristics and needs of various animal species
- Sustainability and conservation issues
Use the activities in the teaching guide (below) to spark children's curiosity before their zoo visit.
Connect and Understand
Children will learn what makes animal special as Wild Explorers through story time and exploration of animals' unique characteristics, habitats and needs.
Your zoo visit will include: Introduction (for arrivals between 9:40am – 10am), Zoo Teacher workshop (40 minutes) and keeper talks. Check out your Teaching Guide for other ideas of what to do at the zoo.

Program maps and itineraries
Your booking confirmation email will list your group's education workshop time/s. Each workshop time has its own map and suggested daily itinerary. Digital maps will be provided to you on the day.

Wild Explorers is an outdoor all-weather program; children will need appropriate clothing for weather conditions. This could include a raincoat, hat and sun protection.

All onsite excursion bookings are subject to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions and as such are subject to change in line with the Victorian Chief Health Officer’s advice. We will be in contact with all teachers prior to their booked date if we need to clarify any new requirements.
