Plan your visit
Let our qualified education team create a rich and memorable learning experience for your students. Guided excursion programs include teacher-led sessions and workshops based in our dedicated learning spaces. Our education programs are designed to be age-appropriate and link to the relevant curriculum (VEYLDF, F-10, VCE), so students get the most out of their day at the zoo. Guided excursion programs are included in the admission price at no extra cost, but must be booked in advance so we can prepare for your group.
With over 40 programs on offer, you’ll find something special to help teach your curriculum or learning program.
Explore a bushland haven for Australian animals and learn about the culture of the Wurundjeri people.
Journey through a world of wildlife and discover animal species from across the globe.
Adventure across the grasslands to see iconic animals from Africa, Asia, North America and Australia.
Each zoo offers a unique and wondrous space for learning to take place, with or without a formal zoo-led education program. If you’d prefer to lead your children or students on an excursion, you can tap into visitor experiences like zoo keeper talks at Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo or Werribee Open Range Zoo. Click on the links above to find out more about each zoo, including links to maps for you to plan your visit.

Payment and cancellation
You do not need to pay prior to your Zoo visit. The following payment methods are accepted:
Cash or credit card (on the day)
Payment can be made on the day by cash or credit card. A tax receipt will be issued.
Invoice (after your visit)
We can invoice you after your visit. Zoos Victoria’s ABN is 969 139 590 53.
Payment must be made in one transaction and will be based on the number of students and adults visiting the zoo on the day. The organising teacher will be responsible for confirming these numbers.
Note: Cancellation of a learning program must be made at least 10 business days prior to your booked visit, otherwise a cancellation fee of $200 will be invoiced. The fee will be waived in the event of inclement weather or if the booking is rescheduled to a later date.
All three zoos are outdoors, so please ensure students dress appropriately for weather conditions. During wet, windy or hot weather, your students can shelter in undercover areas. Smaller shelters can be found throughout the zoo. If weather conditions are predicted to be extreme during your visit and you wish to reschedule, please contact the zoo.
About our Animal Experiences
Zoos Victoria provides experiences that develop connections between young people and animals. We also strive to be an international leader of best practices in the care and wellbeing of animals. Our animal experiences are carefully planned so that the young people you teach can spend quality time discussing and observing animals, interpreting their behaviours and considering their wellbeing. Read more about animal experiences and how we care for animal welfare.
Accessible learning for all young people
Zoos Victoria offers educational experiences that cater for students of all learning needs. We offer learning assistance for students who have English as an Additional Language (EAL) and students with special needs. Schools visiting Werribee Open Range Zoo can also download the free OpenAccess excursions app which provides engaging learning content delivered in Auslan and captions.
Child Safe Standards
Zoos Victoria is committed to the safety and wellbeing of everyone who visit our zoos. Of a child or student is feeling unsafe, please encourage them to tell their teacher, the adult looking after them and/or a Zoos Victoria staff member.
