What is YATZ and how much is the YATZ program at Zoos Victoria?
The Youth at the Zoo program (or YATZ) is a special membership program with Zoos Victoria, the annual cost for the program is $281.00 which includes all the benefits of a standard Zoos Victoria membership as well as a YATZ t-shirt and invitation to YATZ events each Victorian Government School Holiday period for 12 months from the date of purchase.
How do I become a YATZ member?
To become a YATZ member contact our Memberships team on 1300 966 784. Please note: Your application will ask for a contact email address, our main form of communication for YATZ is via email. Please ensure you have access to a frequently checked email address.
How does the YATZ program work?
The first holidays that you join you will be invited to attend an induction session which outlines everything you need to know about YATZ, meet other YATZ members and let you know how to stay safe while you are with us at the Zoo.
Where are the YATZ activities run?
Activities are run at Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo.
When does the YATZ Program run?
The YATZ activities runs weekdays during the Victorian Government School Holiday periods. We do not run on weekends or public holidays, and for two to three weeks each January holidays.
How do I get Involved each school holidays?
Three weeks prior to each school holidays YATZ members are emailed a timetable of activities that are running. YATZ members then self-select activities by entering them into an online roster system. Individual rosters are then sent out to each YATZ member via email two weeks prior to each holiday period.
How often do I get to come into the Zoo each holidays?
As a Zoo member you can visit the Zoo whenever you like. As a YATZ member there is no minimum or maximum days that you must attend YATZ but we recommend that three or four days will give you good access to the activities we have running and also give you a break from learning as most of our sessions are education focused we know how important having a holiday is for young people.
What if I can’t make a day that I am really interested in?
We duplicate the activities we run each holidays so the activities offered in Week One of the holidays are usually (but not always) replicated in Week Two. For popular days we will rerun education sessions again throughout the year. Just let us know what you would like to do again.
