Volunteer to care for wildlife

There's a whole family of people dedicated to wildlife care in Victoria. Thousands of wildlife carers volunteer their time to rescue and care for injured and orphaned wildlife. This is often a 24-hours-a-day job, requiring great skill and specialised training.

The hospital plays a critical role in providing veterinary care for patients received by carers and shelters – and sends patients to them for more intensive long-term care and rehabilitation.

Getting up four times a night to feed a orphaned joey, helping a Wedge-tailed Eagle learn to fly, or braving a winter night to rescue an animal that has been hit by a car is all a part of the job of being a wildlife carer.

The rescue and rehabilitation process could not happen without this dedicated group of people.
