Kyabram Fauna Park is a great place for a school excursion. Our school program educates children about the importance of animals, the environment and how they can be actively involved in conservation.

Our qualified teacher delivers lessons aligned to the Victorian curriculum.

Excursions to Kyabram Fauna Park

Education sessions at Kyabram Fauna Park include:

  • A 30-minute classroom lesson with our qualified teacher
  • Animal encounters

  • Trail sheets which give group leaders information about the animals in the Park

Ratio: 1 adult to 10 children

Cost: $12 per student. Additional adults (above the 1:10 ratio) are $10 each

All animals need a place to call home - from the tiniest ecosystem like a pond to a vast forest. In this lesson, you’ll meet some of the Park’s special animals and explore where they make their home. (VCSSU058)

Australian Animals (Grades 3 & 4: Diversity and Classification)

We can group animals based on their observable features. Australia has many unique animals from monotremes to marsupials. In this lesson, you’ll meet some of our amazing animals and discuss the features that make them so special. (VCSSU057)

STEM workshop (Grades 3 & 4: STEM)

In this workshop, you’ll explore Kyabram Fauna Park and look closely at our animal enclosures. Then you’ll come into the Park’s Education Centre and start a design for your own special animal enclosure. Oh – and you might get to meet an animal or two! (VCDSCD031)

Australian Animal Adaptions (Grades 5 & 6: Adaptations)

Australian animals have behavioural, physical and physiological adaptations that help them survive and thrive in their natural environment. Meet some of the Kyabram Fauna Park animals and take a closer look at their incredible adaptations. (VCSSU074)

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow (Grades 5 & 6: Threatened Species)

In this lesson, you will meet Australian animals that are at risk of becoming endangered in the wild. We discuss the different threats to their survival and learn simple things we can do to ensure their continued survival. (VCSSU075)

Survival of the Fittest (Grades 5 & 6: Adaptations)

Australia has one of the harshest environments in the world. In this lesson, you’ll meet some of the Kyabram Fauna Park animals and look at how the structural and behavioural adaptations of living things increase their chance of survival. (VCSSU074)

Australian Animals and Bushfire (Grades 5 & 6: Geography)

In this lesson, you’ll explore the short and long-term impact that bushfires have on Australian native fauna. What makes the koala so vulnerable to bushfires and what special adaptation helps the Shingleback lizard be alerted to the presence of fire? (VCGGK095)

Secondary School programs at Kyabram Fauna Park

Classification (Years 7 & 8: Science)

In this lesson, we discuss why and how we classify different animal species. With the help of the Kyabram Fauna Park animals, we look at similarities and differences that help us organise the diversity of the animal kingdom.

Food Chains and Food Webs (Years 7 & 8: Science)

Organisms within an ecosystem interact to create food chains and food webs. You’ll meet Kyabram Fauna Park animals and learn about the important role they play in food chains and webs.

Water (Years 7 & 8: Geography)

Learn about the importance of water to our Australian native fauna. In this lesson, we discuss how the wetlands at Kyabram Fauna Park support biodiversity in the local environment.

Ecosystems (Years 9 & 10: Science)

In this lesson, we look at the vital role different animals play in an ecosystem. We discuss how environmental changes can impact balance and diversity in ecosystems.

Self-guided excursions at Kyabram Fauna Park

School groups are welcome to visit the Park and enjoy a self-guided tour for $9.50 per student.

Each adult with a 1:10 adult to child ratio is free.

Additional adults above the 1:10 adult to child ratio are $10 each.
