Join one of our amazing Melbourne Zoo keepers as we travel through time…and the behind-the-scenes pathways of trail of the elephants.

Did you know that Melbourne Zoos, first elephant arrived in 1883?

Learn about the history and ever-evolving social dynamics of the elephant herd, bulls and our newest calf arrivals.

Start your journey at the old heritage elephant exhibit and hear the incredible story of Ranee - the first elephant to ever call Melbourne Zoo home. Before taking a sneak peek behind the scenes, exploring our current elephant barns and viewing different types of best practice enrichment items and techniques.

Finally visit our social herd, calves and bulls Luk Chai. To hear each individual’s unique story of how they came to be part of the regional breeding program and the inspiring conservation ambassadors they are today.

Each encounter will be unique, allowing our Keepers to let the individual animals shine and give them the choice to control how they participate. If you’re an elephant lover, this is one not to be missed!
