The place where Shakespeare and Sketchers collide. Marking Heath Ledger's Hollywood film debut, '10 Things I Hate About You' reinterpreted 'Taming of the Shrew' as a classic high school matchmaking comedy. In order to take popular sophomore Bianca to the prom, new student Cameron enlists enigmatic bad boy Patrick to date her older sister, Kat. Cue: grand gestures featuring marching bands, cameos by alt-rock royalty and a shoutout to 'The Feminine Mystique'. With an all-star cast including Alison Janney as a pulp fiction-writing guidance counsellor, the film remains a favourite for fans of Thai food, feminist prose and angry girl music of the indie rock persuasion.

Stars: Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordeon-Levitt

Director: Gil Junger

Year: 1999

Running time: 1hr 37min

Genre: Comedy/Drama/Romance

Film classification: PG - Mild sexual references, coarse language and drug references
