Orang-utan Behind the Scenes
Head to dizzying heights at Melbourne Zoo to visit our orang-utans from the roof of their exhibit! In this exclusive experience not only will you have the change to view these incredibly curious creatures from a VIP viewing platform but you will also head behind the scenes with our passionate staff to areas usually reserved only for keepers.
You will be given the chance to assist our keepers with placing food based enrichment around the enclosure. Orang-utans like other great apes are highly intelligent and like enjoy the task of searching and problem solving to find their food.
While our family group of orang-utans live in safety, Sumatran Orang-utans in the wild are under great threat. They are classed as critically endangered, with numbers in the wild rapidly falling. Numbers have dropped by close to 95% in the last 100 years and there may now be fewer than 3500 in the wild. Your behind the scenes encounter will help Zoos Victoria fight wildlife extinction
