This one hour on-demand PD is exclusive for Zoos Victoria members so you can learn anytime. It is hosted in Flipgrid and includes interesting videos, interactive activities, teaching tips and resources you can use right away.
You’ll meet Dr Jenny Gray (CEO of Zoos Victoria) and Dr Sally Sherwen (Director of Wildlife Conservation and Science). Their conversation will delve into the challenges of recent events and how they have pushed people to adapt and innovate. Hear stories of survival and humanity, and think about what the future holds for animal conservation.
You will learn:
- How cognitive bias affects optimism and pessimism
- Stories of hope from the 2020 bushfires
- What happened at the zoo during the start of Covid-19
- Future plans to help animals and wildlife
This PD supports the teaching of the Victorian Curriculum levels F-6 and 7-12: Science
This PD is accredited for the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:

You will be supported to teach optimism and hope in your curriculum
Standard 3.4 Select and use resources
You will be provided with a video and discussion questions that you can use in your teaching
You will receive a certificate for one hour of professional development.
