Ethical Concepts (Year 3-4)
For teachers who want to include different ethical viewpoints in the Year 3-4 curriculum.
This one hour on-demand PD is exclusive for Zoos Victoria members so you can learn anytime. It is hosted in Flipgrid and includes interesting videos, interactive activities, teaching tips and resources you can use right away.
This PD will build your confidence to explore with your students the contested concept of ‘fairness’. You will use a zoo case study to investigate different ethical viewpoints by asking whether the concept of fairness also applies to animals. You will then be able to use the case study and what you’ve learnt in your teaching of the Year 3-4 curriculum and Ethical Capabilities.
You will learn:
- How ‘fairness’ is a contested concept that can be applied to humans and animals
- Self-reflection and questioning techniques for exploring contested concepts such as Fairness
- Resources and prompts to engage students in the classroom and develop ethical capabilities
- Ways to support students and extend their thinking
This PD supports the teaching of the Victorian Curriculum, Levels 3 and 4 Ethical Capabilities
This PD is accredited for the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs
You will learn how to structure and sequence learning about the Ethical Capabilities
3.4 Select and use resources
You will access a range of teaching resources, including videos and prompting questions that will engage your students
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
You will learn new ways to deliver teach the Year 3-4 curriculum through real-life scenarios
You will receive a certificate for one hour of professional development
