Nature Play the Wurundjeri Way (Early Childhood)
For teachers who want to teach 3-5 year-old children about Aboriginal culture through nature play experiences.
This one hour on-demand PD is exclusive for Zoos Victoria members so you can learn anytime. It is hosted in Flipgrid and includes interesting videos, interactive activities, teaching tips and resources you can use right away.
This PD explores how to use nature play experiences to teach Aboriginal culture. You will discover how to incorporate Wurundjeri Culture into your teaching through storytelling, language and hands-on sensory exploration that can be taught in any outdoor setting.
You will learn:
- What nature play is and why it is important
- How to engage your children in nature based outdoor learning experiences
- About Wurundjeri connections to plants, animals and the land
- How to incorporate Wurundjeri culture and nature play resources into your teaching
This PD supports the teaching of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework: Outcomes 1-5
This PD is accredited for the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
Standard 2.1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area(s)
You will learn about different outdoor, nature-based experiences that integrate into the curriculum and connect students with Aboriginal culture
Standard 2.4 Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and nonindigenous Australians
You will experience first hand knowledge from a Wurundjeri leader and a practical resource kit to support you in this teaching area
Standard 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
You will learn new, exciting ways to deliver content of the Early Years Learning and development Framework in natural outdoor learning spaces.
You will receive a certificate for one hour of professional development
