Battle for survival for this little possum
Did you know this little guy was thought to be extinct for 50 years, before being rediscovered in 1961? But the super-cute Leadbeater’s Possum is still in real trouble, when more than half the population was wiped out in the Black Saturday bushfires. Healesville Sanctuary is working hard to save the species with a captive breeding program and threatened species experts are confident of babies soon.
This week is Leadbeater’s Awareness Week, and celebrations will be held with Friends of the Leadbeater's Possum at 1pm at Cambarville Picnic Ground near Healesville tomorrow. Find out more at http://www.leadbeaters.org.au/.
And if you want to make this commemorative green ribbon to help raise awareness, you can download it at the Friends' website.
