Cheetah will be sadly missed

16 December 2013

The entire team at Werribee Open Range Zoo are saddened by the passing of Cheetah Kaidi, who was euthanased today following a deterioration of a pancreatic condition.

General Manager of Life Sciences, Russel Traher said the ageing, ten year-old Cheetah had been treated extensively by Zoo veterinarians, but it did not prevent his condition from worsening recently.

“We are all very sad about the loss of Kaidi but his condition had begun to affect his quality of life and this decision was in his best interests”, Mr Traher said.

Zoo Veterinarian, Leisel Wion said that the health of the ten year-old Cheetah had deteriorated rapidly in the last week, despite intensive medical care.

“Kaidi was unresponsive to medical treatment and while mentally he was still alert, his body was beginning to shut down.”

Kaidi was loved by everyone at Werribee Open Range Zoo and was very close with his brother Inkosana.

The brothers were born in Monarto Zoo in 2003 and moved to Werribee Open Range Zoo in 2005.
