Christmas comes early to the animals at Healesville Sanctuary

17 December 2018

Healesville Sanctuary’s animals are joining in the Festive Season, enjoying some Christmas treats of their own!

Christmas came early for big and small today, with the Sanctuary’s Tasmanian Devils enjoying oversized paper mache Christmas baubles stuffed full of their favourite treats, the Tree Kangaroo’s home decorated with a beautiful Christmas wreath, the Mountain Pygmy-possum unwrapping their very own teeny, tiny gifts, and the resident Galah sharing the Christmas cheer with visitors.

These festive treats are part of an extensive enrichment program, which includes interactive activities and items that offer variety whilst encouraging problem-solving and foraging behaviours for the Sanctuary’s animals.

While Christmas came early today at Healesville Sanctuary, the good news is the celebrations don’t stop, with Healesville Sanctuary, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Melbourne Zoo open to visitors 365 days a year, including Christmas Day!
