East West Link Update

3 July 2014

Earlier this week, the Minister for Planning, Matthew Guy, announced his decision for the East West Link project to go ahead subject to changes following expert advice from a planning panel investigating the project.

The change that is most relevant to Melbourne Zoo is that there will no longer be an entry and exit interchange at Elliott Avenue and disruption to Royal Park is to be minimised.

This means the construction site of the project is likely to be much further away from the Zoo than first anticipated. This latest development provides us with further confidence that the tunnel will not have a significant impact on the operations, visitor amenity, safety or welfare of the animals at Melbourne Zoo.

We will continue to work with the Linking Melbourne Authority and the successful contractor to ensure the performance requirements for the project in relation to the Zoo are met by the project proponent.

Following the State Election held on 29 November 2014, there has been a change of Government. The website will be updated accordingly.
