East West Tunnel Update

9 May 2014

On 4 May our CEO Jenny Gray received a petition from community members concerned about the impact of the proposed East West tunnel on the Zoo. About 100 people attended the children’s rally at Melbourne Zoo and we were able to hear, first hand, the concerns of the community about the tunnel and to talk through how we have been preparing for this potential project.

In terms of our preparations, we continue to liaise with the Linking Melbourne Authority and we have worked with our animal welfare experts and behaviourists to assess the tunnel impacts using the information in the project’s Comprehensive Impact Statement. Based on this information and our expertise we do not believe there will be a significant impact on your zoo. We are in the process of conducting further independent baseline study on noise and vibrations and we will bring you more information on this as the study progresses.

We would like to thank all those who visited Melbourne Zoo as part of the children's rally.

Following the State Election held on 29 November 2014, there has been a change of Government. The website will be updated accordingly.
