Emily, Teddy and Amie makes three

8 November 2011

Meet Little Emily, found on French Island a week ago, orphaned after Mum had a climbing accident. She was still clinging onto Mum and vets believe she could have been there for a few days. She was rescued by Parks Victoria staff and then transported to Healesville Sanctuary by Keeper Amie Hindson. She was dehydrated and weighed 1.8kg.

"We were very concerned about her kidneys when she arrived and were worried about her condition," Dr Rupert Baker, Senior Veterinarian, Healesville Sanctuary said. "We put her on a drip, gave her special Koala milk and plenty of good, healthy gum. She's now doing very well and is being cared for by surrogate mum, Amie Hindson."

Healesville Sanctuary Koala Keeper Amie has been doing a wonderful job providing round-the-clock care for little Emily. "I'm guessing she's around eight months of age and would have been riding on Mum's back," Amie explained. "She's in safe hands now, despite a scary few days."

You can sponsor Emily and other animals just like her at Healesville Sanctuary for just $15 a month, making it a great Christmas gift idea. Find out how to Adopt an Animal.
