A recently arrived young giraffe from Auckland Zoo is stretching his legs in Werribee Open Range Zoo's large African Savannah, after being released from routine quarantine this morning.

21-month-old Jelani is getting to know his new playmates which include six other giraffe, several rhinos, zebra and antelope.

Jelani arrived in Melbourne in September, following a four-day voyage across the Tasman.

He has never mixed with other species such as rhino, but keepers say he is extremely calm and settling in very well into his new home.
